Bookmobile - Final Run Nov. 18

The bookmobile will make it's final run along route 223 on Nov. 18.
Time Schedule:

Following the final run to the Central Cape Breton area, the Cape Breton Regional Library Bookmobile will be transitioning to a Borrow by Mail program.

CBRL’s new Borrow by Mail program is a free mail-order library service available to:
- Rural residents of CBRM and Victoria County who live more than 15 kilometres from a branch
- Individuals who are unable to travel to their local branch due to disability or long-term illness

Borrow by Mail users can select material such as books, magazines, audiobooks, and DVDs from our online catalogue or over the phone. The items you borrow will be delivered via Canada Post directly to your mailbox in a convenient reusable zippered bag. Each shipment includes a postage-paid return label you’ll use to mail items back to the library. You may request as many items as you like, or as many as your mailbox can accommodate. Drop off your Refundables at Rankin School

We are still accepting refundable recyclables here at the school. If you are dropping off Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 - 3 please leave them in the two small wooden boxes beside the shed at the top of the bus loop. If you are dropping off on weekends or after school hours, you can drive down to the garage and place the bags or boxes in the new shed beside the garage. We would like everyone to know that we are very appreciative of any and all donations of refundables. Thanks for your continued support of our school.

Remembrance Day Service - Monday November 11, 2024

Remembrance Day service will take place at St. Columba Church in Iona, following the parade from the Cenotaph at 10:30 AM
Upon completion of the service and wreath laying, there will be a reception and luncheon at the Legion Hall.
A hot bowl of Chili will be available from the kitchen, along with an assortment of breads/rolls, tea and sweets ($5).
Everyone Welcome

All personnel and organizations wishing to take part in the parade, should form up at the Cenotaph prior to 10:30 AM on Nov. 11th.

Intermediate/Advanced - Tuesdays 6:30-8:30pm - 6-week session - Sept. 10, 17, 24, Oct. 1, 8, 15 For those who are comfortable holding everyday conversations in Gaelic (eg. can talk about common topics like daily activities and weather using past, present and future tense)

Advanced beginner - Mondays 2-4 pm - 6-week session - Oct. 28, Nov. 4, 18, 25, Dec 2, 9 For those with some previous exposure to Gaelic (eg. can use some basic Gaelic words, phrases, and greetings)

Instructor: Hannah Krebs

Cost: $30 for 6 weeks

Classes will be taught using the Gàidhlig aig Baile immersion method, and hosted in a home sestting in Christmas Island. We are grateful for financial support from Oifis Iomairtean na Gàidhlig | The Office of Gaelic Affairs.

WINDOWS AT ST.COLUMBA CHURCH-The two wooden windows on the water side of the church will need to be replaced this year at an estimated cost of $2000 per window. As was done with the previous window replacement, any parishioner or friend of the parish who would like to donate a window in memory of a family member or friend can do so by contacting Gregory at 902-295-7843.Thank you for your consideration.

St. BARRA, the first church in Central Cape Breton, is the new salt giving fresh flavor to the manna from heaven, the Word of God. At 10:00 AM every Sunday morning the Word of God, transcribed in the Bible, is read and explained for us today which brings the the past to life in our times. The Lord God says: I am the Alpha and the Omega, the one who is and who was and who is yet to come, the Almighty.
